A little tooling made

I keep getting castings to bore weld that I can't/shouldn't use a tack nut. Also it's not worth clamping up the boring bar supports (too much time).The borewelder folks have lots of attachments for this thing that also require a handsome exchange of funds from my bank to theirs. I used the "big eye" and scaled one of the attachments and thought I wanted a little more travel so I made it. Prolly should have bought the darn thing and kept working on "paying stuff", oh well.Pics below of the new clamp on borewelder mount (weldments made from 1/2" & 3/8" hrs and tigged with E70S-2).Matt Attached Images
Reply:That looks great. You can never have enough fixtures around. When I'm making fixtures like that I try to work at making them as flexible as possible so as to be able to use them for more jobs in the future. Reply:Thanks, everyone!"forhire",the mfg wants $395 or so for it and I'd prolly have bought it but I wanted 3" of adjustment and by scale theirs looked to be 1.5". It's a US company with US employees so the price seems OK for a small specialty company to me. At least they are feeding local families."ZT", I'm leaving a note to the crib attendant (me ) to place the borewelder mount with all the other stuff waiting to get painted.  It's a pretty big pile! I guess for the fixture guys, It does fixture the borewelder, then jigs on to the piece... "It's a fixjig... no a jigfix... no, a shellerpickercombinechopper! Matt
Reply:I thought I'd update this after using the borewelder mount.I found a couple of things I'll add or change but no big deal. Anyway the mount allows me a fairly quick axial adjustment (the borewelder clamp to tube is not square with the world and twists as it is tightened to the bar a fair bit). Sometime I'd just get frustrated too...It sometimes took 15 - 30 minutes of adjustments to get ready down to about 5 and "I'm good to go"! That means I just got a raise (these pay by the bore).More pics below.Matt Attached Images
