7018 on the left and 6011 on the right. For those who have followed a little bit. This is pass number three in 4-5 years. I felt as if i got my groove back a little today. Also its a bitch welding bent half way over. Gave my tabe out about a month ago and havent see it since. These welds were too high to kneel down and to low to stand straight up.. Wierd position. Any pointers?Lincoln 225--  7018 on 105    &  6011 on 65  (75 seems to undercut pretty bad.)3/16'' SteelLast edited by theservicegroup777; 10-11-2012 at 12:03 AM.
Reply:yeah!, Get your table back so your back doesn't hurt.    I think a little more heat, slow your speed down so you fill the undercut. Migh want to adjust your angle. Reply:Turn the amps up a few on the 18 and let it do the work, Perhaps a JJJJJJJJJJJJ motion for the 6011 will help with the undercut. Lookin better though.I forgot how to change this.
Reply:I just noticed something else, stop beating the hell out of that steel with the chipping hammer, I seriously wish they would re name that damn thing chipping denter, or better yet what it really is, a slag rake, Oh this is what keeps me up at night, thinking about people who beat up metal with a slag hammer lmao, food for thought, although i highly doubt thats going to be sand blasted and painted and put on display in grand central station, but you get the jist of my thought process, it just looks bad.I forgot how to change this.
Reply:you'll find you have too much wire for the volts you have available
Reply:That is the very first thing I catch people doing when I am teaching them how to weld. I notice that they have absolutely no body positioning and absolutely no means of bracing themselves to steady their hands and body/movements while welding. while you are hunched over and probably holding the stinger with two hands and shaking like a leaf trying to put in a good weld, how is your positioning? are you going to lose your balance or slowly fall forward as the electrode burns away inch by inch?Whether you weld with your right or left hand, you need something - a bar, pair of chain grips, vice grips, anything that you can rest your other arm onto that will help stabilize your body. Go to this website, and on the main page, take a look at the pictures. http://www.grbwelding.com/  do you see how Gerry has his body stabilized; he uses his other arm to brace himself so that he can move up and around the pipe in a very controlled manner? Welding is about positioning.46’ sae30047’ sa200 w/Wisconsin VF451’ shorthood56’ shorthood56’ shorthood68’ redface69 redface07’ ranger 305G13’ sae300Inconel/Hastelloy – SS – Duplex – Chrome/Carbon Tig – F3Downhand – STT/RMD – F3F4 – B Pressure

Reply:[QUOTE=Mikel_24;1687391]When running beads on flat stock the slag comes out easily. Also when doing ouside corners or fillets. But when doing inside corners, even if the bead looks great underneath... the slag takes a fair beating to be removed! At least with the ESSAB 7018 rod I am using. And the bead does look good and strong underneath! I am not talking about a crappy bead that has slag entrapment and such. The electrodes are not being held at 250* F in an electrode oven. Your not running them hot enough. You did say they were esab.Your travel angle is to far in the direction of travel, and your building the center of the pool up to much, causing the slag to hold more. You did say esab.I forgot how to change this.
