Hello all, was out in the shop last night doing some organizing and cleaning.Came across a few five gallon pail's of misc sized bastard files I picked up as a lot a while back.Im stumped as to a efficient way to organize 500+ files of all sizes. Anyone come up with some sort of unit to do this? What do you guys do? Reply:I'd sort them by composition, you know – steel, etc.
Reply:find/build a unit to store them by size in vertical colums and each collum is a difference composition. It's tedious work to get it organized, but not so bad to keep it that way once you've got it there. and once you've got it organized. you can sell off the ones you have more than 3 of.There are no problems. Reply:I have them sorted already,it's just the storage means I'm struggling with, like a box with dividers,or trays etc.we the uneducated have been led for so long by the inexperienced, that we feel we can do anything, with nothing~Miller Syncrowave 200Miller 251 mig
Reply:I would think like an old mail room shelving unit. Lots of individual cubbies for the files would be perfect.Simlar to this, but with adjustable veritcal stays to allow for differing widths of files. Attached ImagesThere are no problems. Reply:My file storage is only for a dozen or so files. I have a series of PVC tubes stuck to a board with a file in each pipe.Cheers Andrew

Reply:What's a bastard file?........never used one, though some do all the time....for rough work I use an angle grinder. You only need one bastard file and a big one too for those jobs that are soft, like alluminium, and clog up a normal file teeth. As a fitter and turner, I learned to file at the start, and a bastard file was not on the menu.Ian.
