Here is my first 'from scratch' project.  I've wanted to build this since I got my welder almost three years ago.  You can find these for $140 on up at TSC or elsewhere - I have less than $50 of new steel in this one.  It's so I can pull my trailer around the place with my 8N ford tractor. It is with some trepidation that I am posting pictures of my welds - I have learned a lot about wire size, wire speed and settings just on this project, but still have a long ways to go.I am pleased with some parts of it - not so happy with others.  On thing I am pleased with is that when I finished I had about 1/4-inch of the1/8-inch strap left over and about 2 inches of the 1/4-inch strap left over out of the complete steel order - and I didn't have to go back and get more steel .Other than the lousy welds, one obvious screw-up was that I forgot to make sure the holes for the click pins were vertical when I was done.  Those pins for the 3-pt hitch are cantilevered about 4 inches into the tube with a square spacer welded on the end of the pin which puts any loading against the tube wall. Thanks for looking and comments and suggestions are welcome.(Below) completed project(Below) gas shielded weld with .030 wire(Below) flux core weld (.030)(Below) another view of the completed project(Below) the beastLast edited by hilltopper46; 01-23-2011 at 01:58 PM.Reason: can't spell
Reply:Looks to me like it will do the job fine, paint it up and be proud of it."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25

Reply:Looks good. And those are handy as a pocket on a shirt But my guys at work would break that one in about an hour. I had to go a bit more beefy 4" Channel and 1/2"x2" flat bar. This is the 2nd one I built the first one I used 2" channel as the braces and they mangled it trying to move a portable loading ramp.

Reply:Made one for a cat II tractor a few years ago, very useful. Heavy, but I can move the gooseneck with 20k on the deck.
