Hey guys i was doing some welding on 3mm aluminium with some 2.4mm filler, i found myself useing about a inch or 2 of filler just for a puddle that was about a quater fo a inch wide and i was wondering should i step up to 3.2mm filler so i just can dab it and would probaley have alot more control or will 3.2mm filler make a overated weld compared to the thickness of the material which is 3mm?Thanks Steve,
Reply:I don't think very well in metric, so-3.2mm = ~1/8"3.0mm = a bit more than 7/64" 2.4mm = ~3/32"2.0mm = ~5/64"1.6mm = ~1/16"So, in American terms, you're welding about .120" aluminum lets say, with 3/32" filler and you're thinking about using some 1/8" filler instead.  Yeah 1/8" filler can be used.  It will cool the puddle more and add more deposit each time you dip so you'll be dipping less often to keep the same size weld, but I think you'll find the weld will end up a little more filled with the 1/8 than the 3/32.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
