Im looking to make a 50ft cord using 6 gauge wire to allow me to hook up my welder behind the oven in my kitchen... besides lowes and home depot are there any cheaper sources for this wire? i imagine I would want the braided stuff as its much more flexible... Also what should I look at for constructing leads? Harbor freight has a 400 amp stick holder and clamp.
Reply:6 gauge wire? That must be one monster of a welder.
Reply:8 guage cable should be more than adequate for a power cable for your welder ( I know somebody will argue with me) because should and does are not the same. The best answer to your question of Where to Buy? will depend on your location. In San DIego, I would go to either Electrical Supplies Unlimited or Cashway Electric.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:that will get it done. thanks buddy. I didnt think to look for that.... im sitting here scouring craigslist for 6awg cable ha.
Reply:Im in a rent house right now so I cant do anything permanent. how would a 30' 6 gauge work out?
Reply:I imagine in the house to the breaker box would be 6 gauge right!? then my cable im making is another 30ft. it appears to be about 60-70 ft of wiring from the receptacle back to the breaker... i think this will be too much with the added 30 ft extension... hrm I dont see me being able to power one of these monsters here at home, lol.
Reply:you could always try your LWS or metal suppliers that carry welding accessories. I've scored 4awg and 2awg cable runs very cheap that were either left-overs or returns/miscuts. |
