WeldingWeb is a great forum. I'd like to see some new threads. Lurking is fine, posting is better We can all learn something new. We have very experienced welders, hoibbyists and learners. Everyone contributes in some way; I like it a lot. I've noticed that some projects draw more attention and become popular threads. I believe, from observation, that these are the most interesting porjects for most members. Most popular project is probably ~ A cart~ or a ~ welding bench~ for your new welder. A simple rollout for the garage is always great. This can be expanded to a complete Mobile welding set up on a trailer or custom truck bed. Ideas for others come from you solving simple common problems with style. Next would be a BBQ item, smoker, or something for food. This tells U something about our crew... FOOD is a big priority Equally popular is an item for the home, like a table, or wine rack. A gift crafted by you for your wife and family is always a good idea. I personally, NEED more good ideas, share damn it! Big time construction or fabrication always draws a lot of interest. If you work where the scale of the job is "Paul Bunyan" or you do it somewhere spectacular, like overseas or underwater you can draw an appreciative crowd here quicky with a few pics and notes. Eventually you want ot build a Trailer. Often illadvised, sometimes beyond the skill of the poster, and yet, we got fellas who can and do build great trailers. And yes we like those show offs who build way kool toys to ride on the trailer like boats, cars and motorcycles. Last might be those specialty items, that draw the oohs and ahs. For example i like the scale models using advanced techniques. A special kind of weld that very few do well is neat to see. Machining techniques are always fun and informative. I also like what I might call "cowboy welding" Gates, bumpers, rollbars and kool things. Right now I'm working on a bulletproof feeder for the goats. Pictures soon. Post more, lurk less, we have 27,000+ members, and most of them own a welder... I thinkAdd to this list, What would you like to see on a thread???Better yet, snap a few pics and give us a clue on what's happening in your garage these daysLast edited by PapaLion; 03-02-2011 at 07:27 AM.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
Reply:Personally I'd like to see a number of 'other things'...First, I'd like to see more ARTISTIC or ORNAMENTAL stuff, instead of the 'BAZILLION' smokers and BBQ's that seem to be on this site. Even the 'Welding Tables' and Welding Carts don't bother me as much as the insane amount of Smokers and BBQ's... "Let me be clear that this is JUST my opinion" and does not reflect poorly on anyone who chooses to make such a beast, as some of them are works of Art unto themselves..Second, I'd like to see people post their F--- Up's and mistakes for all of us 'Amateurs and Novices' to see! I think that would be GREAT! We see too many Jobs from the PRO's that always seem to get it 'just right' with VERY FEW of the photos that show the big screw up or silly mistakes that we 'ALL' make at one time or another.. I think it would be less intimidating for many of the 'Amateur Welders / Hobby Guys' if we knew that you 'Seasoned' guys were indeed, fallible....Lastly, I wouldn't mind seeing 'Unfinished Projects' that some people have abandoned, as they too, offer ideas and thought provoking discussions as to how they might be modified, finished, etc...Anyway, just my .02 centsCheers All,/Jman...Last edited by jman; 03-02-2011 at 06:41 PM.Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....

Reply:As an "idle" member here is my contribution to the artistic (?) catagory. It's a outdoor table to go in my gazebo I built last year. I rolled the edge with my home made metal bender and then used my ring roller to shape the leaves that I designed with AutoCad. Still doing the finishing touches. If you are interested in seeing more pics you can look here.http://gordsgarage.wordpress.com/201...e-round-table/and herehttp://gordsgarage.wordpress.com/201...-some-support/Thanks for looking, let's see what everyone has on the go.Gordhttp://gordsgarage.wordpress.com/

Reply:Well this would be my first post. I have been lurking on here for about a month lol. After reading this thread I figured I would become a member and start posting.

Reply:[QUOTE=slow6i;482106]BS! fantastic work on the table! I second what jman said. Id also like to see more *insert lots of cussing*-ups. And also the artistic stuff. I hope to buy a machine for home use some day, but right now it just isnt the time. Idealy, i would love to see more piping (as im a pipefitter / weldor [did i use that term right]) in training. Id like to see pictures of how people have measured offsets and saddles etc. or maybe just tricks they've learned along the way. I know there are "trade" secrets that some people dont wish to share because of competitive edge, but anything helps. get yourself a copy of the Pipefitters and Pipewelders Handbook by Thomas Frankland..
Reply:@weldbead - ive seen it mentioned. im currently placing an order along with a school text book i made a mental note to get the pipe fitters handbook a while ago after seeing it mentioned on the forum, but unfortunately, i was blessed with the long term memory of a gold fish at the ripe old age of 27 :/
Reply:Ok PapaLion, no more lurking for me. I've been learning loads from all of you and at a minimum I should give some thanks.-Tom
Reply:tjzelick great I'm up for seeing some new projects from newer members... and yes, as others have noted the art ideas are a good choice too. Reply:I am a hobbyist welder and have posted a few times here, but mostly just try to learn more. That being said, here are a few of my "artsy" projects. This is a nautilus out of a truck turbo I am working onFirepit out of an old air compressor tankBrakedrum FirepitBulldozer for my son. Reply:Here are a few more:Entertainment center:Backhoe bucket tooth race carSparkbug butterflyI am currently building a new workbench out of pallet racking, so my production has slowed way down. I pretty much only get stuff done on the weekends when I can, (free time is hard to come by) I will.Like I said, I am a hobby welder and this is a great stress relief and it is very fun. Thanks to all who have contributed to this site and provided people like me with information and knowledge to be able to play around like we do.
Reply:I think PapaLion wants members to start their own project threads instead of in this thread. Am I correct Papalion? Reply:Hey PapaLion,You know, there were many popular project postings WAAAAAAY back. Most won't go back to some of the original beginning threads to look at some projects posted then. Maybe some of them could be "renewed" for the newer members to contemplate or discuss.DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:I'm just enjoying the view... got my popcorn and I'm ready to observe. do it here, or do it on your own thread... probably easier to find on a new thread? Yes, there are a lot of older ones that would be neat to see. You have to know the subject to search right Yorkie? I dunno how zactlee, but we can work to that.
