technique welding light gauge material

Im in the process of fabing up my dash for my T-type...I have been practicing on some 14ga material and seems like that dime look is hard to get on such thin stuff.Any tips for me to use on this technique? i'd like to leave the welds showing without any grinding.using my miller 211....maybe settings amps lower and running a slower wire feed so i can manuever the gun alittle more, seems like i hafta run real fast in order to not burn through according to recommended settings per material thickness.(1) crappy chinese tigJust bought a miller 211
Reply:The recomended settings are for doing straight stringers, not weaves. If you want that "tig" look, you will need to turn down the heat and wire to be able to slow down.  Since this is just for looks, I'd start with the heat as low as posible and move up as needed to get the penetration..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:what gas are you running? On thin gauge higher Argon helps out, because it produces less spatter than CO2 and reduces penetration.  in the 16ga on up you can short circuit transfer and that will help with bead appearance somewhat.
