Here's some shots of a plow axle I had to rebuild a couple of days ago. In the first pic you can see it after I got through cutting and cleaning up the mess. The journal on the right was completely gone from wear though I did have to cut and grind the welds off each side. I also cut the outside bar loose at the bottom so I could rotate it. The left journal wasn't as bad but did have some wear on it so I decided to replace it at the same time.  In the second shot you can see the old journal and the replacement. We turned the replacement out of some old drill stem which if they ever wear through that it'll be time for a new plow. As you can see we turned it to press fit inside the old pipe and then I plug welded it as well as welded around the joint.   The final shot shows the completed project. I ran two passes of 5/32" 7018 at 175 amps with my XMT on each joint.   My hope is that I'll have to rebuild the journal on the plow itself before this gives up. Reply:This latest blizzard has my mind too far away from spring and plowing fields, I clicked on this thinking "(snow) plow axle?" Nice work.  I wish there was more work like that around here but most of the farmers are buying new equipment before the old stuff wears out and the people that do end up with old stuff are too cheap to have anything repaired.  Funny how things change around here, cause I remember back when I was younger (which was not all that long ago) we would tear plows apart and do this type of work to keep them working, now just replace the whole thing.
