I picked up a a Harris Model 85 torch kit with hose set and Harris regulators yesterday from the pawn shop. Set looks brand new, and I was able to get the entire setup for $100 + tax. I have three other torch sets, which use two different style of tips. The 85 uses a completely different tip, one I've never seen before. Its marked 6290, and I am curious what the benefit is of this type of torch vs other models (such as the Victor style).Last edited by Jason280; 02-03-2010 at 11:49 PM.
Reply:A few years ago, I picked up a NIB Harris set with a # 63 (IIRC) torch, a mixer and a few 23-A-90 tips, a pair of single stage regulators, a hose (IIRC), and a 73 cutting attachment with one 6290 series tip....all for $15!  Well, maybe the hose was missing; I don't remember it for sure.According to my old catalog, the  85 then used a D-85 mixer which also uses the 23-A-90 tips. The handle also took a # 72 cutting attachment. This catalog doesn't list a 6920 welding tip, but the cutting tip for the 73 or 72 cutting attachment is a 6290.
Reply:Most Harris and some of the generic torches use the 6290 tips, they are easy to find and not too expensive. Harris makes good equipment and I like the model 85 torch. You can also run other fuel gases in that torch by changing the tips. Look up the Harris web sight for any info you may need.
