We built a 600 Ton press at work.  Well they wanted to test it, so they had me weld up a train wheel set for the test.  Well  the test started at 200 tons and the welds held....  I was told that @ 100-150 tons the welds should peel like a grape.  So they try it again @ 400 tons.  I win again.  So now I am two for two , and they are upset that the press has not peeled my welds.   So they go full power, all 600 tons. Should I tell you the results or wait until tomorrow when I get the video????The weld was 1/2 inch on the inside 1 inch on the outside.I am tired of Ketchup, I want the Gravy...
Reply:Results now and video when you get it LOL.It must have been one mother of a press.....Mike
Reply:I'll guess that it finally broke, but the press was somehow damaged at the same time.

Reply:yes show a video of this test. that would be cool to watchIf you like my stuff you can find me on Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/theangryanv...ngryanvilforge
Reply:The press is fine.  The press is made to remove the wheels from train wheel sets.  So it is fairly large to begin with. And the welds held up.   The wheel shattered, with such a bang it scared the crap out of everybody.  And I am not kidding, the train wheel shattered into four pieces.  But the welds are still their.I am tired of Ketchup, I want the Gravy...
Reply:That's sick.
Reply:And yes, the semi-ballistic parts are now in geosynchronous orbit. City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined. Reply:could welding sequence have  cased the  wheel to shatter
Reply:I do not think the weld sequence had anything to do with it.I was unable to find the guy with the video.  But I did get some crappy pics with my phone. Attached ImagesI am tired of Ketchup, I want the Gravy...
Reply:Very nice looking glad to see factory stuff come apart before after market stuff. lolVantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:I imagine the wheel shattered because something had too. The fact that it split into equal portions indicates that the force applied was pretty even and what ever retainage was holding it place (in this case weld beads) was also pretty even."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:I'm pretty curious to see what this 600 ton press looks like. We have a 175 ton brake press at work for brake metal and it stands about 13 feet tall and about 16 feet wide.
Reply:I wonder if they do testing like that in CHINA? Also if product from there would have the same results? Reply:That must have been some noise!I had a vid of All Lifts in Albany, testing a choker strap. It blew apart at 25000 lbs, it was awesome!Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:They don't do TESTING or any sort in china........I wonder what , or how was 600 tons  created????
Reply:I don't expect many to believe me but we have a 6000 ton press at my work. It has a 38' bed and is used to form steel for steam drums. Anybody ever see 6" to 12" plate get broke ? It's a sight but unfortunately it has been mothballed because we have gotten out of the large vessel work and mainly do tubular products for coal fired boilers. Back in the plants hayday when they did nuclear vessel work they had a 14,000 ton press.

Reply:Oh wow, other people from the crapital district. We've destructively "tested" quite a few of All-lift's slings over here on the other side of the river too. lolNeat press BTW.
