What do Scooters and Fat Chicks have in common? They sure are fun to ride, until one of your buddies sees you on one.HaHa, now lets get back to the Post.I have a Honda Metropolitan that I decided to try and "Get a little more out of."  It's engine is only 49cc, and 4 stroke.  It gets 110 mpg!!  (One of the kids dropped it off 3 years ago, and I have only put 110 miles on it.)Like any engine, Get more air in, get it out and add some timing.  I wanted to first put on an exhaust. They make really nice, beautiful, pipes for this thing, but the tight-wad in me, refuses to spend $300- $400 for an exhaust. So, I decided to make one.  The finished product weighs less than 1/3 of the stocker.  And I made it for about $22.00 (including paint).  (Haven't painted it yet.)It is 3/4" conduit, steel wool, and 22 gauge sheet metal.  The reliefs are cut with a Wafer Wheel, and then hammered with a chisel.  Holes are drilled perpendicular and offset.I made the flange to fit the head/exhaust port, cut/made the exhaust gasket out of gasket material.  I tried to keep the head pipe close to the engine.  The head pipe has less turns than the stocker.I also wanted it to be quiet, but breathe.I went out and test drove it.  It isn't loud or obnoxious.  It sounds good, for a scooter. It only took a leisurely, afternoon.  I don't think it looks bad, either.Let me know what you think.-RhynoHere's a link to the rest of them.http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...d/IMAG0309.jpg Attached Images07 Fowler 200D65 RedFace04 Miller TB 302, 22hpMiller 12RCMiller HF 251-1Lincoln SP135HyperTherm PM 380and a few others... Reply:Have any pics of the inside? Kinda curious about those baffles. I made a cherry bomb type muffler for our shop bike. It lets out a nice low roar when the bike is actually working lolEDIT:Just saw your link.

Reply:Interesting.  Can you provide a little more details on the baffle design?  I need to make a muffler for my welder, and this is a useful starting point.Oh, and how does steel wool hold up.  I was thinking of using stainless pot scrubbers for more corrosion resistance.
Reply:Let's see the before and after dyno sheets!!
Reply:Nice! looks like a fun project . how does it sound compared to stock ?years ago, i occasionally rode mini-bikes around my mothers yard with friends.one friend decided to make his sound more "bad ***" and made a different muffler. within 10 minutes a old hag is trespassing on my property bitching about us disturbing nature."i heard a dog barking"  boo hoo

Reply:Now get a little advance and some extra fuel into the jug and have some fun.  I did a power up kit on my honda CRF230 and it really helped the pull and top end with just some minor changes.I'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Originally Posted by RhynoThe baffles are basically, semi folded Tri-angles.  I used a wafer wheel to create an X.  I welded up one leg of the X.  I used a Chisel and hammer, to push in the material.  In the pic above, the flow input is the side with the Steel Wool.  The folded in Tri-angles, "grab" the sound waves.  Plus this style of baffle creates a "little bit" of back pressure.  I don't know how much, though.I know that the Steel wool will Rust.  Stainless would have been a better choice.  Plus, if the "Grit" or weave of the SS pot scrubbers is Bigger/looser, more sound waves will be absorbed.  I drilled a moisture drain hole, on the bottom.  I have no Idea how long it will last.  I was hoping that it will last longer than FiberGlass packing.-Rhyno
Reply:Here are the Videos.  The sound is right on/accurate.The first is when cold.  The second is when Hot.http://s1219.photobucket.com/albums/...=VIDEO0018.mp4http://s1219.photobucket.com/albums/...=VIDEO0019.mp4-Rhyno07 Fowler 200D65 RedFace04 Miller TB 302, 22hpMiller 12RCMiller HF 251-1Lincoln SP135HyperTherm PM 380and a few others... Reply:Pretty good for twenty bucks, it cost me about 3 or 4x that just for packing, rivets, etc. when I repacked the cans on my old bike. But it did give me an excuse to buy an air riveter.
