Recently I have been having back problems. I like the Idea of a teeter hangup. I'm just a little hung up on the price. I have been contemplating building my own with 1x1 tubing. I am looking for thoughts on a bearing system. From the pictures I have found, the teeter hangs off of one side of the bearing. I was thinking of getting some one to mill a solid piece of 1" stock that is 2.5" long. This will be the center. Then machine another piece to weld to the frame to let the other piece ride in and swivel. I was thinking .005" clearance & .250" wall, and 1.5" long. Also would like to put a grease cert in it. Would this be a good setup for this? What are your thoughts? Thanks LukeMillerMatic 212Mkita chop sawand a head full of ideas

Reply:First off let me tell you I suffered from Sciatica for about a year, The nerve was pinched between L5/S1 I did the cortisone shots for 6 months helped a little, But I bought a Inversion Table from Sportsman guide for $110.00 After three 10 minute uses I have been back pain free for 3 yrs now, I still use it once a week just to make me feel fresh again, But that would be cheaper than the Teeter brand or building your own, But if you must build one, I wouldBuild a stout frame out of tubing and have 2 Pillar Block bearings mounted at the top of the triangle frame, Then use the 1" Round for the swivel pin and weld the table to that, Jon
Reply:just got one on Amazon  for like $70

Reply:years ago my friend and i went to someones house.. they had an inversion table.. my friend with no permission puts the boots on wrong, gets into  the thing and falls on his head and passes out. my pants didnt dry for two days.be careful..
Reply:These ones aren't bad for the money:http://www.amazon.com/Marcy-IVT450-I.../dp/B002HZS14SThe limiting strap is really not necessary.  If you've got the height adjustment right, you can control how far back you go pretty easily with your arms.I still need to make a head cushion for mine since the back of my head seems to rest right on the tubular steel frame. If you're set on making one, you could do a little R&D (ripoff and duplicate) research with a tape measure and piece of paper at your local sporting goods store.
Reply:Just a heads up on Sciatica as well. Loosing weight is also highly effective in controlling and eliminating the pain. I've got two compressed discs as well and my sciatica has gone away after a regular regiment of working out.
Reply:A set of pillow blocks would work nicely and most come with a zerk. If i were you, i would worry more about strapping your feet in! I was lucky and garbage picked a teeter hangup that was in perfect condition! The blood rushing to your head makes it feel like your eyes are gunna pop out. I am guessing this is the reason the previous owner threw it away. I got used to it and kinda like it now.... But i wouldnt pay what they charge for one! I see how you are "hung up on the price!"  The foot bindings are not that comfortable, so im interested to see what you come up with....Lincoln ac/dc 225/125Millermatic 211 w/ Spoolmatic 100Miller 330 a/bpDynasty 200 dx
Reply:I am not dead set on building one, but I do have the tubing to do it. My main concerns were the swizel and foot locks. Now I am off to google to find a pillow block and pillar block bearings. Sounds like they may be the same thing. Thanks.LukeMillerMatic 212Mkita chop sawand a head full of ideas
Reply:Bought some pillar block bearings yesterday. Gonna get some drawings together and see if we can make this thing work. Gotta go to Academy and get some measurements.LukeMillerMatic 212Mkita chop sawand a head full of ideas
Reply:Not sure about building one, but I can tell you that if you have lower back pain, this may be your ticket for some relief.I spent thousands of $$$ in search of relief from sciatic pain. I tried, physical therapy, acupuncture, medications, at least ten different chiropractors, every thing short of Voodoo, and eventually ended up in a wheelchair where I was destined to stay unless I had back surgery. The surgery was good for about year then the pain started coming back again.....I had just about given up hope when one of the guys in the gym referred me to a different type of chiropractor, a rather pleasant and frail older gentleman who has since passed away, that performed his magic on me using an inversion table. It was a little uncomfortable at first but within a matter of a few hours, I felt the pain receding. I woke up the next morning feeling almost pain free, and later that day I went out and bought one of the less expensive models, I think it was around $100 all in.That was about 2 1/2 years ago now and I have not had a need to seek a chiropractor since. Whenever I feel any pain or even think I might start to feel pain, I simply hang upside down and twist for a few seconds. As much as it displeases my wife,  I keep it set up  in my home office 24/7,  and can tell you it is one of the best investments I ever made....best wishes, mikeLast edited by mikee; 03-21-2011 at 10:03 PM.
Reply:Thanks for the info Mike. I pinched a nerve about 3 months ago and ever since if I sleep on the wrong bed or stand up funny it hurts for about a week. When I hurt it the first time my doctor gave me some steriod shots and it helped. She let me go back to work in 2 weeks. It's almost like I am just more concious about it. I used to just go and never think about it.Guess if it don't work I can always cut it up for another project.LukeMillerMatic 212Mkita chop sawand a head full of ideas
