I thought I could do it in a day. After about 45 minutes of grinding using the 7" and 4.5"The angle keeps the pin aligned with the boom.Making sure its straight. It was within 1/8" with crude measurments Attached ImagesLast edited by David R; 03-31-2011 at 08:07 PM.Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Looking forward to the welds.
Reply:Web hosted pics. Bear with me.I cut a hole with the plasma. Now I had access to weld the inside. Vertical up with the rod pointed down. The angle keeps the plate flush.3/32 7018 out of the oven 80 ampsDown to the good stuff!Last edited by David R; 03-31-2011 at 08:14 PM.Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Nice repair. I've fixed a few myself with similar damage. I've been lucky in that there's been room around the perimeter that I can wrap a piece of 1/4 x 6 flatbar around the boss and carry it further up the boom. Gives it a bit more strength.....Mike
Reply:I do not know how it happened, but the boom was in the hole hanging by the hoses and cylinder when the rental customer called Bobcat. I asked them to strip it before bringing it to my shop. I don't know if there is room for the 1/4x6 around the pin, I doubt it. I could see where the hoses were rubbing on the bottom. The boom is 1/4" and the plate I used was 3/8" X 6".Started at 8:30 finished at 2:00 For once I estimated 8 hours.Broken boom #2 is a whole lot worse. Thanks for the compliments.DavidReal world weldin. Reply:Nice repair David. Why was your decision to use 7018? Just curious."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man" |
