Hi all,LOVE this forum. So, been welding for about 12 yrs, had a little 110v flux core Lincoln, but just stepped up to a Eastwood mig 175.  LOVE the mig so far, but I still get splatter, not like I did with the flux core, but a reasonable amount, especially when welding scaly material, like hot rolled round bar, or flat bar.  Is this normal, or do I need to tweak my settings?  Do I need to maybe up my power, wire-feed or shielding gas? I am running C25, was running it at 28cfm, but have adjusted it down to 22cfm.  I typically notice the splatter just as my weld is starting, like in that moment before you really dig into the material and your puddle forms.  Thanks for any feedback.
Reply:Keep tweaking with your machine, youll find your sweet spots, and it's spatter not splatter I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Ha, spatter... I will keep tweaking, I think I may just need to up my power setting a bit.
Reply:Cleaning the millscale/dirt/oil off can help alot with reducing the spatter. Keep a short stickout and find the right settings on the welder and you shouldn't have much spatter. Also there are ways to keep spatter from sticking to parts.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:Long stick out is frequently the issue with lots of spatter. Most guys want to hold the gun way to far out to easily see the puddle rather than getting down in tight and looking down the "barrel" as they weld..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:I think my spatter issue is ME, operator error.  I have welded for 12 yrs with a flux core machine, and have acquired the bad habit of starting with my stick out too far (doesn't matter as much with flux core, as the gas is in the wire), this would explain why my spatter seems to occur at the start of my weld, I need to get in the habit of starting in tighter.  Thanks for all the input, I really think I wouldn't have figured this out for weeks without ya'lls help.  Thanks!
