Show me your power rotary table. I 'm looking for ideas to weld 36" dia. farmer wheels down to 2" weld in hub sprokets. Foot pedal & micro switches. Weight on the table is max. a 150lbs. Bearings , VHD's, gear reducers, wrecking yard transmissions, or ? I got 2pcs. of 34"dia. X 1/2 " plate to start with. Show me your ideas. Thanks to all that reply.
Reply:I forgot something BACKLASH in all the gears - DC drive ?
Reply:Variable speed reversable motor with gear reduction. Car rear end will give you a right angle drive and handle the thrust load form the project and platform weight. Primary speed reduction with a belt drive. Variable speed DC motors and controls can be had from the tread mills I see on Craigs List. The industrial turn tables I have repaired had three phase motors with Variable Frequency Drives. They also had slip rings for the ground lead. Backlash should not be a problem with a constant speed drive.Last edited by nadogail; 04-21-2011 at 12:59 AM.Reason: spellingI offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:The new application of our old turntable is to have the frame, motor, etc. in a pit to have the surface of the table flush with the floor. It buys us an extra 2 ft of headroom under the penthouse. The table is 12 ft diameter made from 1 in plate with removable 1 in plate corner pieces so the pit can be square. The controls are on the beam next to the table. We just installed it over the winter and have yet to put a tank on it yet. |
