No extra regulator needed because I tapped into the gas line after the solenoid. I still have to add a ball valve in the hose for manual shut off but that's it. For now it will have to be a vise grip valve. To split it off I made up a tee using 1/4" copper plumbing pipe. It has the same ID as the gas hose so I will not lose any flow. The brass barbed tees I saw were too restrictive and since this is low pressure the barbs are not needed. The only  drawback is that I will have to estimate flow drop at the torch head and compensate with a bit higher at the regulator. I will have to get a torch end flow meter if I want to be accurate.  The whole project took about an hour. The obvious bonus is pre and post flow matched to the torch.Sorry about the sideways pics. iPhone/PC misunderstanding.Last edited by orange4boy; 04-24-2011 at 02:36 PM.Reason: added pics
Reply:What's wrong with using a dual regulator for back purging? You have to be able to control them seperately and the way you have it, it won't operated the way you need it and have not control of the flow.
Reply:Nothing wrong with dual regulators. This is just simpler and cheaper. I will be able to control the flow with a ball valve. If you need to flood a large space than this would not work but for my needs it's fine.
