Reply:I don't use that one, but I do use the QA-6. It is fantastic wire in my Esab MM260. http://www.hobartbrothers.com/produc...Quantum_Arc_6/QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS
Reply:We burn through tons of that wire where I work.  I'm not joking, we buy the 60lb spools by the pallet load and one of our weld stations uses the 500lb drums with a boom mounted feeder. The boom feeder uses .052 dia., the 60lb spools are .045 and .052 dia. wire. I think it's good stuff. We use it most with spray arc, very little short arc.For spray we use 95%argon 5%oxygen shield gas, somewhere between 24-1/2  and 27 volts. Our feeders are old Lincoln POS so I can't give you a wire speed. The pointer is about in the 11 O-clock position if that helps. Very little splatter, almost none if you are careful. Just run a wire brush over the weld and its ready for paint. For short arc we use 75%argon 25%CO2 shield gas, somewhere between 19 and 22 volts…. I think, its been a while. You get the typical short arc spatter, but spray it with anti-spatter before you weld and hit it with your scraper when you're done welding and it comes out OK.Of course, like anything, you'll get out of it what you put into it. Wire brush the rust off at the very least. Grind it to bright steel and it wets in sooooo sweetly, also you'll have the least amount of problems with splatter. The 80 series wire is overkill on mild steel, 70 series is all you really need. We use the 80 series on T1 and HardOx.Will
Reply:Thanks 4on12 so you don't think i'd need any of this? i just thought i'd have some stronger wire on hand.HOBART IronMan 230 MIGSmith Lifetime WH200 HD O/A Torch
Reply:If you are just welding mild steel , no it is not necessary. If it gives you peace of mind to know that your weld will rip the base meal apart before it fails then go ahead and get some, but the money you save by buying the 70 series instead of the 80 series might eventually add up to a new finger clamp or something. Will
