Finally got the tractor unloaded this afternoon, and I thought someone might get a kick out of the trailer ramps.I built these around 13yrs ago.  The ramps are in 4 sections, pinned together at the hinge points, and HEAVY  Each section is 6 feet long, making for 12 foot overall length.  Very handy to keep the angle safe when unloading a farm tractor.  Tractors have a tendancy to want to tip right over backwards when coming off ramps if the brakes are applied. These doooods are made out of 5" channel, with 2 1/2" x 1/4" crossmembers .One of the real advantages I designed for was the ability to set these up on less than even ground.  The middle leg, and pin at the trailer deck, allow for setup on most types of ground. On the flip side, they're pretty labor intensive to set upEdited::::::::  Attachments didn't upload first time around Attached ImagesLast edited by farmersamm; 05-15-2011 at 09:40 PM."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:This is the ramp detailTotal weight of the ramp is in the neighborhood of around 700lbsI was pleased that the new floor didn't bend under the weight of the tractor.  If done well, 11ga floorplate is adequate for a pretty heavy pounding Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Hey Samm, decent tractor!  Glad you didn't fall over backwards.Kyeh, kyeh, kyeh!  He said doooods! I thought only Californians said that.City of L.A. Reply:those are awesome.  I may have to copy your design.
Reply:Hey Sam - looks good! What does a tractor like that weigh? That is one my least favorite moments. It seems like whenever a guy gets new heavy equipment, their very first act is to back it off a trailer. Always an *** clincher here.-Jim
Reply:Ramps are nice and heavy but I'd be thinking about building a dovetail on to that stubby trailer and making a permanent set of ramps to go with it.Miller 250x & Lincoln V205-TSmith Oxy-Prop torch
Reply:Nice! I guess one guy is not gonna set those up by himself. What part of the USA are you in?Miller Synchro250 bought new 1997Millermatic200Miller Bluestar 2E . AC/DC 16hpBluestar 2E , DC Miller Thunderbolt225 AC/DC ArcLongevity 60 plasma

Reply:I have a 20 foot bumper pull trailer and it had a dove tail on it and I cut it and made it straight. Much better now. It doesnt hang up on every little dip now.Miller Synchro250 bought new 1997Millermatic200Miller Bluestar 2E . AC/DC 16hpBluestar 2E , DC Miller Thunderbolt225 AC/DC ArcLongevity 60 plasma
Reply:You probably don't transport your tractors that often, but what about a pin-on dovetail with fold up ramps built onto it?  Kind of like the pin-on extra axles or "stingers" on a lot of the heavy lowboys now days?  You could make some fold down stands for the very back, and maybe a bulldog type jack on each front corner, where you could easily detach or re-attach it.  Wire in a light plug on the back of your trailer, and just plug the dovetail in like a trailer.Probably not used enough to warrant the time and effort, but on the other hand, I know what it's like being a one man show a lot of times, and I don't see those ramps being a one man operation very easily.
