Am I Crazy?

I currently have a barely used Miller Maxstar 150 STH. I sold a few things and have some money burning a hole in my pocket I love old industrial machinery, tools, etc. I don't know why, but I get goosebumps looking at old stuff and using it after it's been given some TLC.I know I have a basically brand new welder, but I'm thinking about buying an old Godzilla size TIG, selling the Maxstar, and buying a mig like a Millermatic 211. FWIW, I'm just a hobbyist and do projects when I get the time...the biggest of which would be framework, like building a trailer, working on truck, etc. I am into old machine tools ("old iron") and I can also see the need for the occasional buildup on a damaged part, etc. to supplement machining metal in a home shop. Locally, there is a Miller 330a/bp in very nice condition with water cooler, pedal, torch, spoolgun, spoolgun controller to drive it, and "lots" of wire. No tank. Actually on a small trailer, though I don't need it. Not completely sure of the price, thinking around $1K tops.There is also a Lincoln 300/300 TIG with tank, torch,, stinger, pedal, 50 Lbs 7018 rods, No cooler. Says he has "$1500 invested"....not to lowball the guy, but I probably wouldn't pay that.Which would you buy, assuming equal prices? Am I crazy to get rid of a current model TIG and buy an old dinosaur that is going to give me hell when I move every 3 years? (I am in the military).Last edited by ScubaSteve; 01-24-2013 at 06:06 PM.
Reply:Hi, first of all, Thanks for serving. The old stuff consumes  lots of power. If the 150 is too small go for a Miller 200 syncro and you have more stick welding amps. As far as the 211 goes, money well invested. The 211 is a easy one. Buy it and think about the rest.
