Anodizing Stainless? Or coloring?

I have a small stainless bracket that I want to change the color on. I'm terrible at polishing that is a given. Anyone have any good ways to color it (so it will withstand some heat and still look good) and have a color color finish?Haven't decided what color, but open to anything that isn't spray paint or powder coating. Reply:the problem with heat coloring is that if the part is exposed to high heat it will just change again if it gets hot enough it will just turn dull gray. What is this piece? titanium and aluminum can be anodized, you can actually dye aluminum, titanium can be electrically treated to give it different colors.

Reply:Found something off of google that says you can color it and give it that burn titanium look with coke and 9v batteries. Anyone know why 9v batteries and not a car battery or charger?
