Baler hitch repair

Here's a repair I did on my square baler  during the winter. Wanted to make sure it was ready for the hay season this year..... but I didn't need to hurry, hay doesn't grow without rain.First couple pics show how bad it was. Third one after I had removed the worn piece with a 4" cutting disk. Fourth is the piece of plate I had laying around that fit just about perfectly. And last is welded up.More to come. Reply:Now all that was left was putting a hole for the hitch pin and a little cleanup and paint.For those of you who wonder why it was worn so bad; square balers have a lot of back and forth motion form a large plunger moving back and forth, 93 strokes per minute for this one. I've been told the plunger weighs over 150 pounds (haven't had to pull it out yet) and it's moving about 3 feet with each stroke. Reply:that brings back memories..as a teenager i worked on several dairy farms in the hudson valley..among other things we baled..one of us boys would follow the baler which had a hay wagon behind it..the walkers job was to pick up the bale and throw it intothe wagon, the one in the wagons job was stack em high..one farmer had a kicker on the baler.then both of us rode in the wagon and got covered with hay when the kicker fired the bale ten feet in the air intothe wagon..
Reply:I drop them on the ground and then have a bale loader that goes on the side of a trailer to pick them up. I stack them on the trailer while someone else drives. Back the trailer up beside the barn and run the hay in with an elevator and stack them. Problem is it requires two people for all of that stuff. I hope to get an accumulator and grapple some day, makes it a one man show then.... and I don't have to do any lifting and throwing either!HH 187Miller Bluestar1EAHP AlphaTig 200X
