I have a small studio (12x24) that I share with my wife, who does wood and stone sculpture. I weld in my half, and the fumes are an issue. I've been experimenting with creating a working extractor. Bought a 6" inline fan and some flexible duct tied into an open 4"x12" vent that's open on one side. The fan is barely adquate to suck the acetylene ash in if I start the torch directly in front of it, so I ordered a Vortec 480 CFM fan (pricey!). However, I'm still trying to hook all this up so it works efficiently, especially when I move from my table with a vise and grinder on it, where I may heat things like railroad spikes to bend, to my welding table.Any thoughts, pointers, etc.? Thanks
Reply:Harbor Freight has a 8" portable generator what works really well. Use a 20% off coupon and get one for $60. Says it will do 1400 to 1574 CFM. Those are HF numbers, so who really knows what it does ? In any event, it is very impressive. I could be an easy 4 feet away and see the smoke being sucked into the fan as I'm welding. |
