hey guys I'm   practicing on 4" schd 40  steel pipe 6010 root 7010 fill and cap. when I do the root pass what does it mean when the flux starts to peel back from the top of the rod during the root? any advice thanks.
Reply:Not sure whan you mean here?Is your flux peeling off the rod while the rod is being help by the electrode holder? There isn't much flux on a 6010 weld bead and you have to chip/brush it good to clean it off before making another pass. A grinder works well for this as well. You dont have to run 6010 down hill. You can run it uphill as well (more penitration than downhill).JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Tip your rod just a tad into the curly-que. 6010 does this sometimes, it's a type of "finger nailing. 6010+ and 6011 aren't as prone to do this, but they will all do it if the rod has been exposed to high humidity and dried. As a rule it won't affect the root, but a bend test or x-ray...hope for the best!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
