Just started using my new Power Ultra 205 and I am just working on running some practice beads using E6011 with DC on some 1/8th" metal and I can get the arc to start, but im burning the rod before the flux has a chance to turn to gas. The rods are fresh out of the package. AM i running too hot?. I had the amps set at 65-70 .Which mode is best for the E6011? DCEN or DCEP?Of the test beads i have made, there is excellent penetration. I just need to work on my circular technique. Thanks for your help guys!- mototig2010 Everlast Power Ultra 205-----50A Plasma / 200A Tig / 160A StickLincoln Arc 225ACNorthern MIG 130
Reply:You did not state what size rod your running, but if its 3/32 then the amps are good.  On 1/8" try 80-100 amps with DCRP .

Reply:6011 runs only in AC or in DCEP or DCEN. It won't run in any other polarity.  ...Polarity change is said to change penetration characteristics. What rod diameter are you running at 65-70 amps? I have 2 brands of 1/8" rods that burn from 70-130 amps give or take. 3/32" rods would be ok at the range you have there.City of L.A. Reply:I have found ESAB makes an excellent 6011 rod and I have used them for many years. Lincoln 6011 is the one rod that Lincoln makes that I won't buy. Just don't like them.

Reply:Are you sure your machine is set correctly.  Since its a DC machine I would run it in DCRP.  Hobart does make good running rod, not the best but still good.  DCRP ='s DCEP.

Reply:Remember 6011 should be run in a stepped pattern so it has a sawtooth look to itTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:Actually 6011 is compatable with any technique. Step it, whip it, weave it, oscillate it in circles, drag it, turn it up and cram it in, or even do a shoestring lace with it. It will handle it all just fine.

Reply:Mototig,You should be fine with Electode Positive and about any  technique you choose.  Stepping is more for root pass situations.   Its a good crud rod.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:Thanks for the help guys! I switched to DCEP and cranked up the amps a bit and now the welds are coming out nice and smooth.I was having a problem where the rod was burning faster than the flux, which was creating the "hole" in the center of the rod.Now all is well! Im going to practice on the rest of these hobart 6011's and then buy a better brand for next time.Thanks!- mototig2010 Everlast Power Ultra 205-----50A Plasma / 200A Tig / 160A StickLincoln Arc 225ACNorthern MIG 130

Reply:Originally Posted by MattKThis is the reason I also love to grab the 6011s. In many cases it can eliminate the need for MIG out in the field (as long as you aren't after a really pretty weld). The faster you whip it the thinner the metal you can weld.I also like how it can cut through the rust.
