Here's what I did yesterday. Hobart 140, 75/25 mix, 030 wire. Speed and voltage were 3 at 30, then a couple at 2 with 25-30. The plate is an 11ga. I'm so new at this.    Having no one to show me what to do, and watching several videos, here it is. Any, and all comments will be welcomed!  It's been off and on with this a while. The first attempt was not so good! Attached Images BEER ? YES, I'LL HAVE ONE!!!
Reply:Voltage and wire speed are too low. For .030 wire 75/25 gas, you should be about 4 on the voltage and 40 on your wire speed ( settings are listed under the cover and in the manual. You also will want to try to weld in a straight line rather than in random patterns if you want help. It's very difficult to point out suggestions when the beads go every which way. It's much easier to say the area on the right of the 3rd bead from the top vs the one next to the squiggly one on the right side of the piece...Overall other than the settings were low, the beads don't look all that bad. reset the machine and run some more and post them up. Remember that generally with solid wire and gas you push rather than drag the weld. Try and keep the gun about 3/8" off the plate and travel at a nice even speed..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:I drag/pull when MIG welding. However, both work. Once you figure the machine out and how to lay a nice bead. Things will come to light. If you're MIG welding alum with a push pull gun, you push the gun. Which keeps the shielding gas in the weld and not away. This is how I was tought his to weld. Welding steal I don't think it really matters. I could be wrong.Melt-n-Metal
