My Little Harbor Freight Welder..

Had to fix my dock where the ice got ahold of one of the leg mounts and cracked it from both sides..The crack was only 1/8" from connecting and then its "Splash" into the water..Got out my trusty Aluminum jack and with the help of a milk crate was able to lift the dock out of the water and get it set up for the season.The pics are sort of in order..The last pic is the wire I bought for it and it works rather well!(I could not get the grinder in there to clean up the area so I just went for it..)All is well now and I even got around to mounting the pump on the end of the dock for lawn/garden watering!I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Looks good, Zap!! Those little HF welders have their place. A man just has to know when/ where to use it. A friend bought one of the HF 80 amp inverter stick machines and I ran a 3/32" 6011 rod in it and was impressed! Duty cycle too low, not enough "oomph", that dock is gonna collapse and kill someone.   J/K!!  It's funny how you seem to get different responses than other people with this type of welder.  Of course, you know how to use it!  Interesting though, it does show that those little welders can lay a decent bead with someone that knows what they're doing, plus keeping it within it's capabilities.
Reply:Tools are tools, they all serve a purpose.  As long as we all stay within the tools limits they will generally give decent service.  On the small stuff, I just plan to replace it when it breaks and move along.  Had good luck so far, but I am not over working the little machines either.  That whole right tool for the job thing...BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?

Reply:Right on Zap. My first wirefeed was one of those.Someone gave it to me for free cause it was missing the gun and the feed line. Not as easy to make a gun from scratch as it might seem. I think I made 4 and out of those the 3rd worked the best. Had $20 into it and someone gave me a cambell hosfield 80 so now it sits. Mostly the 110v welders just sit. Good for sma;; stuff when you have no 220 available. Kinda like riding a moped, or a fat chick. Lotsa fun till your friends see ya riding it! (I only heard about the fat chick)MLM
