To weld or not to weld?

I just installed a tow system on my vehicle. It has some kind of epoxy paint... looks tough/thick. I have a ~20 gauge chrome bracket for the wiring plug to mount on the hitch. I am afraid of compromising the paint on the hitch for fear of corrosion. I have considered some kind of epoxy adhesive....Otherwise I have a lincoln/century 80 welder could grind and weld it on... But then what would be the best procedure for preventing corrosion?Ideas?

Reply:I would put/wire the light harness in the trunk and just run it out and close the lid when you pull your trailer, not like you are using it every day if you are then you really need a truck anyway.Tim Beeker.
Reply:use some self tappers and screw it on, hit it with a little spray paint after and call it good, chances are its powder coated, just make sure the bare metal is protected and hope for the best, its about as good as youll get
