I have this little trailer that my grandfather gave me. It's on the small side but what it really needs is some springs. Its an old homemade trailer with a solid mount axle...made out of a old truck frame. As it is a truck frame and I have another truck frame with springs and hanger out at the barn, I was thinking of drilling out the rivets and bolting the hanger and springs to the trailer or is there a better way of adding springs to this type of trailer? Reply:it all depends on your budget... use stuff from another = cheap buy all new = deep pockets. either way if done correct and safe is good, just up to you...
Reply:Check your height. The springs might make it too tall. If you need the height, then the springs might be a fast bolt on solution.
Reply:I would definitely add springs.City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined. Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore."Job 28:1,2Lincoln, Miller, Victor & ISV BibleDanny
Reply:check ebay for torsion axles. you can get r&l half axles.
Reply:In fact, old truck springs make great substitutions as they are longer and softer than normal trailer springs. Attached ImagesLast edited by tanglediver; 05-28-2011 at 10:39 PM.City of L.A. Reply:I finally got around to pulling the springs for this trailer and found a striped down trailer out at the barn that had a good axle with springs attached. All I would have to do is add spring hangers to the trailer. The trailer is at my parents house where I have a good work area but no welder and the welder is out at the barn where I don't have a good work area... too much dry grass to weld right now. Are there any spring hangers that can be bolted up and then welded later?
Reply:I would say try to find a way to move it to where it can be done correctly. Short cuts always seem to lead to headaches.City of L.A.
