Crappy Tire had grinder stands on for around 50% off so I grabbed one.Once I got it out of the box and assembled, I noticed in the instructions it actually isn't meant to be a free standing...stand...but is intended to be bolted to the floor.So. I decided to make it free standing with this quick fab job."These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Reply:Oh, BTW, did some mower maintenance today.  Changed oil, took the blade off and sharpened it on the grinder and cleaned caked grass out from under the deck (we've had a wet year so far).  The mower mulches way better with a razor sharp blade."These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Reply:Looks good! Does the stand start to move around when you turn the grinder on?I built a grinder stand out of a truck rim, it still moved around when I turned it on. I ended up adding 3 feet with rubber pads and adding 50 pounds of weight to keep it from walking across the floor.
Reply:Nope, doesn't move one bit.  When I assembled the grinder there were issues with some of the bolts on the guards being too long - the ones attaching the magnifying lenses and work stops to the grinding wheel shrouds.  I added washers to the affected bolts to ensure they cleared the wheels and it's run fine since. On the stock stand, upon start up and wind down, it had a shimmy in there somewhere about mid range that went away once at working speed."These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Reply:Well if the grinder is from crappy tire also then not to worry about the shimmy cause it will only last a few years anyway.  Ps put your location in so we knows you a CanuckMiller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. Reply:Usually the cheap grinders are low powered, but the wheels they send with them are the worst part.Egg shaped and through holes at an angle, none failed the ring test anyway.I aligned the wheels on mine and trued them, and it has lasted me a lot of years.
Reply:For our American friends, Happy 4th of July!"Crappy Tire" refers to Canadian Tire - a retail icon here in Canada.Mastercraft is the CT brand of tools.  Definitely not SnapOn quality but for the hobby workshop guy such as myself, they're okay - especially when you get them on sale. The grinder I got is an 8", 4.8 amp for $79.99.I usually track items on the CT site and when something I'm interested in is about to go on sale, I'll receive an e-mail notification.   I got my Lincoln MIG PAK 180 at about 40% off that way.  My Lincoln helmet at 50% off.  I've picked up other tools and equipment for as much as 75% off - you just have to be patient."These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Reply:Oh yeah, my Mastercraft chop saw was 50% off.  Got a torque wrench for 65% off."These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Legal requirements do not exist.Technical issues subject to change."_________________________________________Lincoln MIG PAK 180Lincoln AC-225
Reply:Nice job Hardware, but it looks to me like it could do with the two rear feet extending further back to increase stability. Seems like any more than gentle pressure on the wheel while grinding and the whole thing will fall backwards,(unless you stand on the front leg of course)Lincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE  GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.

Reply:I've wonder if the "Mastercraft"' referred to from the States is the same as at CT. The Mastercraft stuff at CT is hit and miss. Probably like Harbour Freight, if you are vigilant, you can pick out the good from the not so. Got a couple grinder's for 60% off, years ago and they are still kicking, and for $1you can 9.99 with a three year bring in and swap for a new one, warranty, you can't lose. Speaking of warranty,  I just bought a Ridgid angle grinder from HD. $84.99 and a Lifetime warranty. Has the thin, center grip. Looks like a wasp waist. Not to fond of the trigger release/ lock. It's a bit funky to press with one hand, but it may be that I'm just not used to it yet. Bought it to try the thinner grip as I have trigger finger in my right, middle finger and because of this weakness, my Bosch kicked back and buried a grinding stone into my thumb, to the bone. So I REALLY needed to try something new!200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
