SHould be a pretty short and sweet answer but I have never run across this before. Apparently the other day when I took my 2 Mig gas bottles for refill/exchange they gave me one normal 75/25 and one trimix Argon/CO/HELIUM which I know is for Stainless becasue I already have a stainless mix. well didnt catch it till just now when I switched tanks and put the trimix on and started welding with it and it welds like CRAP. my problem is I am out of 75/25 and have a BUNCH of welding I need to do tonight. Can I continue to use it to get through tonight or am I goofed until tomorrow when I can go back and exchange them for the right gas

Reply:yeah thats what I was affraid of. I guess I was hoping that someone smarter than Me (should be easy to find) could offer some wisdom with maybe a little different settings than I normally run. it just doesnt lay good at all. its much colder and needs more heat to lay at all. Wire speed MUCH slower. DANG IT DANG IT man that just ruined my next 4 days
Reply:well stubborness or persitance got the better of me so I kept playing with it and actually got a pretty nice bead out of it and surprisingly VERY little to no SPLATTER. I had to turn the gas way down to like 7 LPM and the heat setting is higher than I normally run but made for a pretty nice bead. Took a piece of 1/4 plate and but welded it cut it in half to check penetration and it looked good, put the piece in the press and bent the crap out of it and it bent a long ways before breaking and as normal actully broke the side of the parent material out with the weld. So not so bad but it is a totally different sound (hmm sounds just like Im welding stainless if I get a chance Ill post up a couple pics of it and see what you guys think as well
Reply:I would be screwed my LWS is closed on the weekends. NON SMARTA$$ ANSWER: If it welds like crap I would stop.
Reply:I've never seen it done before, but He needs more power to ionize so Co2 settings prolly would work out well. In any case I would expect very low oxide content in the weld which should give you similar properties to C25 mix.Matt
