Hello all, I'm brand new to this site and here's my first post. I'm fairly new to the world of welding and I just bought my first Tig welder. It was suppose to come with a 150A air cooled torch but they gave me a 125A torch. They are going to send me a 150A, so I tried to find info if the power cables are different. It does not seem to be the case. Weld Craft lists the same cable PN for the WP9 and 17 series torch. Any thoughts or comments are welcome.TIA,Bill
Reply:Anyone?  80 views and not one response?I guess its to simple of a question to ask. I'll give my local welding supply store, sorry to bother the all mighty web welders.....
Reply:You answered your own question and will know for sure when the new torch shows up.  What else is there to say?My name's not Jim....
Reply:Since they sent only a torch and no cable how am I to know? That's why I was looking for confirmation. Anyway, with the reading I've been doing on here since I joined I know I need to expect over complicated, smart *** or useless comments, along with some good info. That is if the question ask is worth an answer i guess......
Reply:Hello Bill, here are some thoughts for your consideration: of the two comparisons that you made regarding the wp9 and the wp17 torches, the wp9 is physically much smaller in size than the wp17 thus it's heat dissipation capabilities are more limited. More mass and bulk, typically better current handling capability. The power cables are easily produced and likely that's why they provide one that is of equal current carrying capability for the two different choices in torches, one production line for the power cable, not two, provide the heavier cable with minimal cost difference. If you look at a physical break-down and comparison of these two models you will readily see the differences in physical size between these two torches. The wp9 with a button-head back cap can reach and access some pretty tight spots, the wp17 on the other hand has much longer/larger components and doesn't lend itself well to the same sort of scenario. There is one more consideration with GTAW torches/power cables to keep in mind, some are better suited and designed for carrying Hi-freq signals than others. Torches used on scratch start/lift arc machines don't need to be concerned with the use of Hi-freq or leaking it, hence some of these aren't designed to be used on machines equipped with the Hi-freq. Torches designed for use on machines that use Hi-freq. are often times equipped with cable shielding to prevent or limit the leakage of the Hi-freq., this can be a rather suttle difference, yet an important one nonetheless. Just a bit for your consideration. Best regards, Allanaevald
