I've read about people renting or leasing gas cylinders. I'm new to welding, got a Hobart Handler 140 last year and messed around learning with flux core wire. I decided I should move over to mig wire but I don't have a tank. After calling the few places I know carry welding supply they all sell but don't rent/lease cylinders. My questions is this. Is there anyone in the Peoria, IL area that knows of somewhere I can rent/lease a tank? I am welding floor pans in a car so I don't need a lot and I won't be using the welder but a few times a year for small things after this project. I don't need to purchase one when I can just rent one for a bit when I do need it.Thanks in advance for any help.
Reply:its probably best to buy a small tank weather if from craigslist or a LWS, as far as around here there not cheap to rent and you don't rent for a weekend then take the tank back you pay by the month or year for the tank. For me the best way is buy tanks from CL or bank auctions it cost only a few bucks more to fill a 330cf size tank than a 80cf.
Reply:Around here, there is a significant deposit fee, plus the first year's rental. You pay almost as much for a rented tank in the first year as it costs to buy it. The economics are designed to discourage rentals....and it works.
Reply:Call your local suppliers to buy a tank from them and see how much to fill it. A 125/150 around my area is $175 to $250 for C 25. Rental cost are crazy costly. Do a search for more info.
