Worked yesterday in the shop, I want these out of the way for another project that is late... They were loaded wrong side up in a machining center...Before I'm done I'll have 75-90lbs of filler down in two days I hope. The bores are 7.75"dia 9.5"long, 2 passes. There are also a crap ton of holes to fill after borewelding, about 60lbs in the bores and the rest plugging holes with short arc and pulse manual welding.I treated the material as HSLA after testing hardness (I didn't etch for alloy content) and let my customer know any original heat treat was gonna be toast. These don't go on anything with wheels on it, but I'm sure the end user doesn't want part features out in cyberspace so they are blurred. It takes over 90min for one bore pass on the little borewelder and I have to move the torch once for each pass so there are 4 starts and stops to make 2 passes. The travel speed is 20IPM and each revolution is about 75 seconds. Realizing how long this would be, I dumped the setup in the roundabout and set it up too with .045 wire (I just have enough to do 1 part but anything helps). The second setup runs a little faster, 65-70 seconds per revolution and I can run the 9.5" length all at once. With all the setups moves and running back and forth I used up a bit more than 8 hours yesterday...Oh I forgot the porosity and repair on the first boreweld, first piece... About 4 inches long after I had moved the torch and restarted. It took near an hour to get back going (and required dragging another welding machine out)... It was hot here 104F on the outside so I closed the shop down and started the air conditioners early, one 32,000 and one 18,000 in a 1200sq foot space. Then I started the overhead air cleaner (bad idea). When the torch got within 3 or so inches from the top the air movement was enough to BORK my shielding... So everything but the 18,000btu gets shut down and on goes the face mask...Anyway the shop got up in the 90's late but all was good, today is supposed to be 4-5 degrees warmer with dew points in the high 70's... Pics below;Matt(edit there are 3 parts, it's gonna be tight) Attached Images
Reply:Why do all the truly hot jobs come in when it's really hot. Looks good to me. Been super busy around here as well. I let off at about 2:30pm. yesterday do to the heat. I have that option on Sun wish I had it during the week.
