I'd like to buy some gas cylinders for my oxy-fuel kit. I've been scouring Craigslist for a few weeks now and it's rare that something comes up that suits me. I'd like to buy a used acetylene B tank and a companion oxygen tank. Are there any places in the Boston area that you'd recommend?
Reply:the b tank will be ok for welding, too small for any cutting. and make sure there is a gas vendor who will fill the tanks you buy.....
Reply:where in the Boston area are you?...a bought a set of new tanks from Airgas for a reasonable price.Miller Syncrowave 180Miller 211 w/ spool-gunLincoln Ac/Dc buzzboxCutmaster 38 plasmaVictor,Smith's,and Craftsman (Harris) O/A torches.DeWalt Multi cutterFiber Metal helmets(old school)Enough Snap-On to be a dealer
Reply:I live in Boston but I'm willing to drive an hour or two for a good price. Did you buy new or used from Airgas? Do you mind telling me what you paid (or send me a PM)? I talked to Airgas East in Boston and they won't fill owner acetylene tanks larger than B. I go to Middleborough and Lakeville frequently; is there a good LWS in that area that you'd recommend?
Reply:Igos, over in Watertown, or ARCO are both good local suppliers.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Keep looking for used tanks on Craigslist. New tanks are notworth it cause you will end up turning in your nicely paintednew ones for refills. Many LWS/ga suppliers will allow you to trade in and upgradeyour tank to a larger/different size. So it is worth it to grabany size that you come across.I have lucked out as people have *given* me old tanksthat they thought were worthless since they were out of hydro-date.The LWS just exchange them anyway. |
