Hello and thank you in advance. I was browsing some ads on line and I discovered two items that really peaked my interest. One is a Lincoln squarewave 175 AC/DC tig + stick, almost new, with 2 tier cart, argon bottle, petal and torch, stinger tungstens and consumables $1099 obo. The other is a hypotherm 600 plasma cutter, with 5 spares of everything, 500 bucks in consumables included, few years old with little use, $1200 obo. Good price? Good machines? Ive done some searching and the prices seem to be fair. I really want a tig welder but am I going to be dissatisfied with the low amperage? I was a really good aluminum tig hand a few years ago, I used a miller dynasty 200 at that job. the other place i worked that had a tig welder, i was the only one who knew how to use it properly and it worked well when i got it all set up again. I cant remember what it was, an old green and white linde i think. My compressor atm wont be enough to run the plasma for very long. but it seems like too good of an opportunity to pass up. I have used that plasma before but i remember it being hard on consumables. maybe we didn't have dry enough air even though the boss claimed we did.Well what do u think, good investments? Any pics of welds done by this machine? Thanks again, any info and opinions are appreciatedNothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:The SQ175 is a good machine. No bells and whistles, but gets the job done. Can weld 1/4 inch aluminum but that's pushing it at the top end. The 175 was discontinued for several years, but Lincoln brought it back to market due to popular demand. I think the ask price on that machine is very fair. I'd jump on it if I didn't already own one.Make sure the machine has the correct transformer for the power you have available. Someone here recently scored one in Canada but it was for 575 volt power and could not be made to run on lower power without a transformer swap. Another person bought one of those machines and then purchased a separate step up transformer to power it. Maybe they were both the same person, can't recall.I have no experience with plasma cutters so I defer to someone else on that front.PapaLast edited by papaharley03; 03-08-2013 at 12:13 PM.Lincoln Idealarc 250 (circa 1962)Lincoln Weldpak 155 w/Mig KitLincoln Squarewave TIG 175

Reply:Thanks for then replies. I got him down a few hundred bucks and bought the package. Watching those picker shows pays off! Well, I haven't got em home yet, I haven't seen them yet, but I already love them, lol. With all the add ins I think I did well and if anything they are big name brands, and I keep my equipment clean and good repair, so I'm sure if I wanted to resell them the value will stay. Just got off the phone, word travels fast.... I already have a prospective customer!Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Well waited almost a week to try my new tig. Its been over a year since Ive used one. I sure missed it. Now to get back in the swing of it and feeding the filler properly again. The torch is in rough shape, I will upgrade that right away. As for the other unit, I had to adjust the air flow of the plasma cutter, it cut the 1/8th aluminum no prob, but it struggled with the 1/4.  Once I turned it up from 60 to about 72 and threw in a new electrode it cut like a dream come true. even with my small compressor I'm very happy.
