Cracked trailer chassis

we had a guy drop this trailer in the other day with a cracked chassis we could see a bit of how bad it was once we strip it out it was worse than he though the first job was to cut off every thing in the way it has full lenght mudguards so I had to cut a section out remove the axle and air tank to get better access here are some pics of the cracks on both sides some of the piucs a little burred as you can see by the rust its been like it for a while had to do post in 2 partsLast edited by wello; 07-25-2011 at 04:56 AM.Reason: to many pics for 1 postCreative metal Creative metal Facebook
Reply:part2 to many pics for one post next job was prop it up and cut the bad section out once that was done the cracks in the top flange were Ved out and welded then the new piece fitted once that was fitted and welded I made some plates to reinforce the step that should of been therefrom the factory once they were welded in reinforced the top flange now waiting for the painters to paint inside of the chassis so we can put the axle back in then re fit the mudguards so they can paint the all the top deck and guardsCreative metal Creative metal Facebook

Reply:Yep sure looks like that's what started it.  Probably had been over loaded to boot.  That area is a common failure point on that style trailer.A very well executed repair.

Reply:I pull a landholl and mine cracked about the same place. They just ground it out and rewelded it. It would have been nice to get a job done like what your doing. Show me a trailer that hasnt been over loaded.Learning one rod at a time
