Hi there, I would like to construct some end caps for steel pipe. Instead of the standard cupped caps, I would like to create caps with a blunt tip on them. Pipe is 2" diameter. Any advice on how to make caps like this?IWishIWasAWelderLincoln 225

Reply:Pipe is 2" O.D. I was hoping for a 2" taper to the tip, but I'm not locked into any specific design. Open to suggestions!IWishIWasAWelderLincoln 225
Reply:I think you mean a ''orange peel''. Here's a old way. It is on page 42, almost last page.http://www.esabna.com/literature/Arc...ING_F-4524.pdf

Reply:Make steel cones with a hole in the middle, weld a plate across the hole and you have a tapered blunt cap, start with paper to get the layout worked out and then figure out a way to roll plate that small.

Reply:WishIWasAWelderFor weldability I would start with a steel cap. Steel caps are machined out of solid round stock and have square shoulders, a flat end, and are not that expensive. They generally are not available from 'big boxes' or even general plumbing outlets, soyou may have to go to an industral supplier. In 'dex yellow pages' industrial suppliers for this product are listed under Plumbing Fixtures, Parts & Supplies-Whsle & Mfrs.Another option is a large plumbing contractor, they often have large stocks of smallcomponents.Start with better raw materials, and your project is more flexible.Opus |
