I have a lot of coated brazing rod that is old and the flux coating has deteriorated. It's so bad that applying the torch causes it to turn black almost immediately. Anyone have any idea how to salvage it other than scraping to bare metal and using new flux?
Reply:Nope. Is there any reason you haven't just tossed it in the dumpster yet?
Reply:Never tried to salvage any but if you can't figure out how don't throw it away. A salvage yard will buy it as scrap brass.
Reply:Just scrape it clean and dunk it in new flux as you go. I have found this to be more practical; the tub of flux is pretty affordable, and you get the bare rod for a LOT less. And truthfully, it's not much slower to dunk as you go- it is pretty equal speed wise. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return. |
