We have a bunch of sheets of 1/2" steel plate to cut on our plasma table. All the sheets have magnetize and of course is causing cut issues. Does anyone have any tricks on demagnetizing them? Thought about trying to wrap our stick welder leads around the sheet and run some 1/4" rod on ac on the corner of the plate, not sure if this would help or not.Dynamic MetalworksMontrose, CODynMetalworks.com
Reply:Not sure if it works on bigger steel but you could try hitting it with a BFH.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:Since you mentioned "plasma table," I'm envisioning a computer-cut precision plasma contraption is what you want to use, right? . That led me to believe that an oxy/fuel torch set-up is out of the question then???Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller 625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:I have the perfect answer !!! Cut it with a torch. The torch doesn't care if it's magnetic or not.
Reply:You could try placing your ground clamp at the end of each cut. Where you're cutting towards the clamp. Or just moving it to another location. Try heating the cut zone with a torch to cherry red. Or the BFH trick. Reply:Never ran into this problem with the plasma. Welding yes. When welding, more times than not you can get away from arc blow by wrapping you ground lead around what ever your welding 3 or 4 times. If that doesn't work wrap it around what ever your welding the other direction 3 or 4 times.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
