Howdy.28' sailboat 5500 Ibs with 4.5' keel and heavy steel cradle. The marina is only 1000 yards away and I'd like to haul to the house. Can a guy weld a towbar and a set of wheels up to the cradle? Slow tow wouldn't take long. Or could rent a flatbed car hauler/ landscape trailer. Crane lifts boat onto cradle sitting on flatbed at marina but I'd have to figure out how to get boat with cradle off to return trailer. Wouldn't have to worry about tires, axles, maintenance for the latter. CheersDoog
Reply:I would probably look for a used flatbed trailer and then mount the cradle to the trailerEd Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Can someone weld wheels to the cradle... Maybe.I could also see possibilities with a flatbed if the cradle could be set up to extend past the sides of the trailer. Jack up the cradle and then crib it, or use some of those long boat jacks to support the boat while you back the trailer out from under it. Any way you look at it, you'd need to provide more info than you've given us. Picts of the cradle would help..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Follow the link, this guy is gung ho.https://picasaweb.google.com/1049052...80516820698082Car trays ride pretty high, stack a cradled boat on top and you might make the news. If you could swing the tray or flatbed arraingment, call you local crane outfit for the unload at home sweet home....$300? Unload boat and cradle together.

Reply:If you own the cradle, could you rent a pontoon boat trailer ? I think the trailer would be wide enough to set the cradle on. Secure and tow home and use four adjustable stands to raise cradle and pull out trailer.
Reply:It looks like an L-iron cradle frame, I wouldn't think It would be strong enough to weld axles on without boxing the bottom .Brian
Reply:Bolt a pair of 3500# axels on it and roll. Used to drag a J-24 around town with the same set up. Just be sure the stands are on there good because they were only made for static loads.Syncrowave 300Maxtron 450, S-52E, 30A
