Price of argon up? Or just air-gas?

Reply:i get a 122 100% argon  here in houston for $20.24  but its not at airgas.  they are more expensive

Reply:Argon is being made at a premium right now. Companies like Praxair, Linde, Airgas, etc.. own ASUs that make Nitrogn, Oxygen, and Argon. You have to make a lot of O2 to make a little Ar. So if Argon demand is higher than O2, respectively,  you must put the cost burden of making product on Argon instead of both Oxygen and Argon. So the ASU owners put a demand charge, surcharge, energy charge, natural gas charge, or whatever they want to call it on the product. By the way Airgas is only a 30 year old company.

Reply:Think urselves lucky, $75 for 100 cu ft argon from Linde here in Nova Scotia, touch more for 75/25. That was over a month ago and I don't imagine it's gone down.....MIke
