Reply:That's a pretty serious BBQ you have in the works. Have you got some design details you can provide? Looks like an interseting build.Gordhttp://gordsgarage.wordpress.com/

Reply:the area in the front will be for storage, shades stove top ect. the very top I will store wood and coal. the BBQ itself will be 10' long 4' tall and 30" deep with 4 shelves for cooking so about 40' of cooking surface. I est i will be able to cook about 150 to 175 racks of ribs at a time, that is if I make and use racks. the grill will be 7' long 4' will run on wood and coal 3' will be seperate and use gas mainly to do burgers or dogs if the event im doing calls for that item. I will be usng it to do events company parties car shows bike runs ect. we have other plans for it as well, but we need to get a 30' enclosed trailer to convert into a mobile kitchen and plow through a huge pile of paperwork from th BLM and state of Ca. will keep you posted on how that goes, once we get through all that we will be doing events on BLM land, that attract alot of people, we may do a few small local competions but no real plans for that, I used to do them and found they can be a bit political. more pics to come I have the axles on it and the doors on the storage section will take some pics next few days and post. thanks for your comments

Reply:Looks well made. That propane tank looks like it will be difficult to change out.Is that a state requirement to mount it that way?Maybe you could use some expanded metal for the fire wood compartment doors to keep the weight down up high.Expanded metal really saves on the weight and fuel consumption.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder

Reply:I wonder if that burner could be lit with an igniter, and the flame wick to the end? Hell of a lot faster than drilling holes.Leo

Reply:I have gotten a little more done....wood storage ara has been enclosed with exp metal....friend hooked me up with some wheels fpr cheap and got some decent used, bought some fenders and had to cut 8in out of them and put back together... got one tacked in, still have to cut out and weld in the back of it just feels good to have it finally off jack stands and sitting on wheels have ben skort on cash so have slowed down a bit. but getting there....gunna head to mexico nest week and pick up the rest of the metal I need to finish up with the BBQ and grill Attached Images

Reply:Hyjinx,I don't want to criticize, but want to point out something about your spring hangers.By the way everything looks, when the trailer is loaded, and the springs start to flatten, it looks like the shackles are going to interfere with the center balance beam.Basically, it looks like both of the fixed spring mount points, need to be moved a couple of inches forwards and back. The rear fixed point needs moved, 1-2 inches to the rear and the front, 1-2 inches to the front. This will allow for the springs to flatten out, which makes them longer and to not have them bind on the balance beam. The shackles should be vertical, with the suspension loaded. It is easier to fix now.Again, I just want to tell you what I see.-Rhyno07 Fowler 200D65 RedFace04 Miller TB 302, 22hpMiller 12RCMiller HF 251-1Lincoln SP135HyperTherm PM 380and a few others... Reply:thanks for the tip Rhyno, I checked the distance from the top of the shackle to the bottom of the rail it is 3" im hoping this will be enough, the axle's I used are both 3500# the weight on it will be about 2700 my hopes are it will work out if not i will change it, really hoping it does since I dont want to have to add 2-4" to the fenders I cut 8" out of. I normally do things twice, the wrong way then the right way, thats how I roll
Reply:Below is a couple of PM's. I felt that there might be some important info to share with others. I hope that Hyjinx doesn't mind me posting our PM's. Reply:Hyjinx-Here is something that I have been meaning to add.Hopefully, you used an inner Slug, when extending the axle tubes. If you did or didn't, you still need to complete the weld and put a Weld Cap on them. The pics shows that the weld height is low and there are spots of the bevel that are showing. Your puddle should catch both bevels and have a height that is above the material height. A standard it 1/16th inch of height and 1/16th inch, beyond the bevels.Make sure you preheat them first. If you are curios, look up the meaning of MARTENSITE and how it occurs.-Good Luck.......-RhynoLast edited by Rhyno; 03-03-2011 at 03:06 AM.07 Fowler 200D65 RedFace04 Miller TB 302, 22hpMiller 12RCMiller HF 251-1Lincoln SP135HyperTherm PM 380and a few others... Reply:I have really been slowed down on finishing my BBQ, in 2009 all my welding gear was stolen, welder, band saw. plasma cutter, drill press, and a ton of hand tools, clamps ect. I have been working at a friends shop and using his welder when he isent, but he is always using it, so last week I bought a new machine Millermataic 211, and have to say I really like it , since then I have been able to get alot done and am looking to be done in the next few weeks, so here are a few pics. the frame work is for the grill total of 10 feet 6 feet will use wood and 4 feet will be gas, also have some pics where the water storage tanks will be, have to have one for fresh water and one for grey water, I am using beer kegs worked well on my old one. hoping to paint it in the next few days ...more pics soon thanks for looking Attached Images
Reply:one more pic : ) Attached Images
Reply:Man that thing isn't a Barbecue, its a party on wheels! lolSorry to hear about your tools getting stolen, hopefully you can bounce back from it.
Reply:A couple things...1) Didn't see a brake axle. In most states, one axle will be required to have a brake on it...if not both. Both will be required if it crosses state lines (I think).2) I guess it depends on the definition of Bar B Que, around here, that thing is called a cooker. Bar B Que requires wood and smoke, not propane.Other than that, its a nice build. I can appreciate good food even if its not real bar b que.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:you are corect Lug you dident see brakes....because they are sitting in my garage, after its painted I will install them....and if you had read my post instead of only the title of my thread you would have seen where I said GRILL frame dident mention BBQ frame, and yes in my part of the country we use wood and smoke in our BBQ's, when I am building the BBQ I will post pics for you to comment on and it will be called a BBQ not a GRILL... so thanks for the input lugnut
Reply:few more oics....got the floor for the BBQ installed 10'x30"x1/4, also a pic of the fresh water and grey water tanks....heading to mexico next few days to get the rest of the metal to finish it...should be done in a few weeks ...I really hope : ) Attached Images

Reply:few pics of the smoker....was working on racks today till my 10 day old Harbor Frieght plasma cutter made a load noise and began to smoke, should finish them tomarrow. with any luck will be pretty much all done with it by next week, Attached Images
Reply:With my cooker being 10' it will take a good amount of fuel to run it, since I will only need to use the whole thing a few times a year I decided to close off two of the doors so i could cook smaller batches without heating up the whole cooker. this is what I came up with, not perfect but will do the job. all the panels go in and out pretty easily, I will use my cordless impact to remove all the nuts and bolts have done it a few times doesent take long at all, the last pic are the plates installed for when I will be using the whole cooker, not air tight but i doesent matter that is there i will be cooking pork butt and briskit so a little extra heat wont hurt a thing, will be doing a little test cook this week I hope. have been working on the 26' enclosed trailer I bought to make into a commercial kitchen it is coming along, should have the 10' CL-1 hood this week. thx for looking Attached Images
Reply:I had a small test run this past weekend, here are a few pics, I did 27 racks of ribs and 36 split chickens, pitt worked well just need to make a few adjustments to how it is loaded next time I use it. other than that all was good. once i had a good bed of coals I pretty much had to close the stack and damper and it held at 230ish had no problem building and holding heat Attached Images
