Well, I bought a welding table with a vise attached on eBay. Table top looked to be 1/4" and was 42"x72" and 42" tall. A little larger than I wanted, but I figured I could likely cut it down, pawn if off, or sell it for scrap. I had no idea what the vise was, but it looked mid-large and sturdy. I got the bid on this for $100 and it was a local pickup only.I drove up today to get the table, and the confusion started right away. Turns out they scrapped the table (and likely the vise too). This place apparently buys equipment from closed factories, warehouses, etc. to either scrap or resell. Anyway, long story short I pony up another $100 and come home with this instead:Table is 33" tall and 36"x36". The top plate is 2" thick! Legs and top supports are 1/4" angle.Vise is an Athol 614. I don't know much about it, but I had heard the Athol name before. Pulled this one off a pallet of about 6 vises. Jaws looked pretty clean and overall good shape. So, am I crazy to even take this thing home with a 2" top? I'm betting the whole thing is over 800lbs. Guess I'm going to have to round up the neighbors to get it off the truck, then payment with beer!Kent
Reply:SCORE!!!  Nice deal for the extra cash.  You won't regret that purchase. As for taking it off the truck - find somebody with an engine hoist.  Makeslife a lot easier.  You'll need friends to balance, not lift.  I moved table topmill this way.
Reply:Awesome find.  Athol arguably made the finest vises that have ever been made, bar none, and yours is in excellent shape.  You won't regret the table either...
Reply:$200 for a 3'x3' x 33" tall welding table with a 2" top and vice. I'd say you really scored. that table will be bullet proof for any at home welder. and as mentioned before Athol is a VERY good vice. The table itself would have easily run you over $200 to build yourself. and you've got a vice to go with it. I'd find a way to get some casters under that table so it can be moved when needed without needing to get 3 more guys on it just to move it out of the way.I second the hoist. WAY safer than trying to get it down by hand. fork lift would be even better. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Got it safely out of the truck and into the garage with a rented engine hoist.  Best $40 I've ever spent!  Also, measured wrong in the dark, top is actually 2.5" thick making the top alone nearly 920lbs!Kent
Reply:You will LOVE that thick top. Mine is 1.25" thick and I have a .25" plate screwed to the top. This way when it gets to scarred up I can replace the surface with a new piece.  I have used mine as an anvil before and is is only half of what you have. SCORE? ABSOLUTELY.Your grand kids will be using that table when we are all pushing up weeds.Congrats.
Reply:Wow!  Just the steel is a steal () for $200.  AND the nice vice AND the legs...you got a bargain my friend.Miller 211 w/ spool gunMiller Dynasty 200DXLongevity 60i IGBT plasmaO/A w/ crappy chinese torch/gaugesSouth Bend 10K latheGrizzly 4029 10x54 millGrizzly 7x12 hor bandsawangle grnders, bench grnder, bench belt sndr7.5 hp 80gal cmprsor
Reply:Wow. What a score.  Once ya get it in place, you will not have to anchor it to the floor.  Gravity will be your friend.  Nice vice, too.(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:You can grease that acme thread on the screw and nut of your vice by taking it apart. A good way to tell the wear and tare of its past life. Makes it smooth as silk!  Great stuff you have there.  Bob

Reply:If you look in the corner I mounted my vice on a trailer hitch with the receiver welded to the table. I am going to mount another one on the other side where I can place the vice in sideways.
Reply:I hate you!!! That is the best steal of steel I've ever seen!!!
