I'd like to hear your guys thoughts on the pros/cons of each. For each tig/mig process.Aside from anodizing. with 5356 why would you chose 1 wire over the other.I've never used 5356 so curious to hear why some of you guys use one and over the other. Aside from the strength difference.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:4043 is the most commonly used and it may be considered the best all around aluminium filler.5356 has more Mg and other alloy to make it stronger, stiffer, with it being stiffer it will push easier through a standard mig gun & cable. 5356 has lower silicon it wont wet as well as 4043 and the weld usually does not look as nice. 5356 in some cases will machine better because it is harder.4043 is used much more often than 5356.These are common reasons. There are indeed metalurgical & mechanical reasons for using one over the other.

Reply:most marine applications use 5356 filler with 5082 or 5086 alloy.
Reply:One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that 5356 isn't often recommended for use if it will be used where temps exceed 150 deg. Here are the data sheets on both 5356 and 4043 plus some other alloys.http://www.alcotec.com/us/en/support...ata-Sheets.cfmhttp://www.alcotec.com/us/en/support...d/a4043tds.pdfhttp://www.alcotec.com/us/en/support...d/a5356tds.pdfThis one lists suggested fillers based on alloys.http://www.alcotec.com/us/en/support...on_Chart-2.pdf.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
