Anyone using one?  How do you like it?
Reply:Well enough...like my old Darex better. Reply:came here today to research one. i was curious if it was worth it also
Reply:They work pretty good. I used to be able to do better with a drill point gauge and a bench grinder, but this is quicker and works pretty well, especially for the smaller drill bits that I have a hard time seeing.
Reply:Great little bit sharpener...really like mine (500X).  Very good customer service also.
Reply:For many years I have used the Black & Decker Industrial bit sharpener model 4300. It is very easy to use and I've never felt like I needed more. They can be found on eBay. Looks like this:http://tinyurl.com/d8ob9ytBut I know many men who have taught themselves how to do a creditable sharpening job, by hand.
Reply:I got a Drill DR years back for an xmas gift.I wouldnt waste your money on one. I cant get mine to consistantly sharpen a bit.For the cost of replacement smaller bits these days, it's hardly worth the investment messing with resharpening them. The 2 bits I use all the time are 1/8 and 3/16 for drilling pop rivits. I can buy replacements very cheap.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:I like mine for sharpening drill bits, and I love it for sharpening tungsten.
Reply:Mine worked really well, but the wheel has gone south and I need a replacement. Then again, I would rather get the advanced model which does split tips and such. The basic unit worked very well for what it was.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:I have the 750X IIRC and I think it works OK as long as you pay attention to how to set it. Once I got my helper dialed in on how to set the machine, I could just turn him loose every once and a while to sharpen bits..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Blackbart, I am sorry I don't read every thread.  I will try to do better.

Reply:don't take it prsonally! it was just winding down.  I love the drill doctor!
Reply:I have two.  One old, first generation.  The other the 750X.The old one was pretty good but it was difficult to get the drill index properly.  End result if you did it like they described, the angles would be off.I bought the new one and it is much better.  Very repeatable.Only one issue, the split point was too aggressive.  The older drill doctor was better.I contacted Drill Doctor about and they said it was normal and not adjustable.  I was sharpening in one (the 750x), and then switching to the other (the classic) to split the point.  Anyway, recently I took the new one apart and realized the stone was just pressed on to the motor shaft.  Using big screw driver like a pry bar I moved the stone and now it makes the perfect cut.  On the plus side, their customer support was patient with me (got someone on the phone every time) - but they didn't fully understand the issue and assumed the problem was the nut behind the wheel. Now that it is setup properly, its a breeze to use.For a home user, it is the easiest way to sharpen a drill bit - which means I never have to fight/use a dull one.   Once you sharpen a drill bit on the Drill Doctor, it is trival to 'touch it up'.Bottom line, if you are working on metal, its a good machine.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
Reply:con-fuse9, I am in the same predicament as you.  I have the new one which works perfect, and the first model which leaves a heel on the bit so it won't cut.  I can dial it in for a specific size, which is OK if I have to sharpen 20 bits, but not worth it for 1.  So the new one is flawless, the older one is probably going on ebay.
Reply:All right!I'm convinced to start looking for one as I have hundreds of dull bits.I keep saying I am going to send them out (throwout or resharpen). So I should buy the newest model?
Reply:I posted on another forum also, and the general consensus was that if you can sharpen them well on a grindstone, that is best.  But for the rest of us mere mortals, the drill doctor is the way to go. Also the newer models are better than the older ones.  The most expensive the 750 DX is the Cadillac model.
Reply:Belt sander....zap1I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I believe my new one is the 750X, I'll have to check.  It will do up to 3/4"  The old one, the first design was very frustrating.  I could set it up for one size after a lot of trial and error, so I used it when there was alot of one size to do.  There are a lot of talented folks here who can do it by hand, not me.  The new design drill doctor really shines on the smaller bits, at least in my opinion.
Reply:The Black & Decker only handles up to 1/2" (I think) but can be found under $50.
Reply:Belt sander
Reply:Love mine!
Reply:If you take the time to learn to sharpen them by hand (along with using some sort of a drill point gauge) you'll wonder why you ever bought a drill doctor in the first place.  It's really quite easy to sharpen them by hand.  But to each his own.
