i have a craftsman 110 wire feed mig 3 level heat and 10 level speed gas or flux cord when i weld it acts like the wire speed motor is going out and it acts like sometimes its not getting a good ground no matter were i put the ground so should i try to get craftsman to replace it or should i just use it till i can find another
Reply:Could you describe a little more about how it's behaving that makes you suspect a ground issue?
Reply:The work clamp must connect to the work tightly on clean metal, some work clamps are not very good at doing that.Grind the work clean to bare metal with a sanding disk, wire wheel brush is so-so. Don’t over do the pressure on the wire feed roll and be sure the spool drag is just enough to keep the spool from unwinding. Look for kinks in the wire liner, feed roll to torch. At 110 volts, a long extension cord will take it’s toll on arc power.
Reply:I have the same or similar welder and thought something was wrong with it until I figured out it wants every bit of power it is entitled to.  I was running it through a 12 guage 25 foot extension cord.  It will run through a 10 guage 25 foot cord, but not the smaller one.  With it running I can't even run much of a light on that same circuit before it starts spitting instead of smoothly runing wire with a steady arc.  Test it on a different circuit and make sure it is the only device on the circuit at the time.
Reply:ok my welder on extension or right in the wall it will not bead good arc and good ground but its like when you start to push or pull to make a bead it jumps all over the place and i have had like 10 people use the welder and still no bead i think the wire control board is going out but i dont know how to tell the wire at 10 speed isnt that fast and at 1 its super slow
