Been reading here for a while and finally joined. Trying to figure out which works better for welding up repair patches on my Chevelle - contact tip flush with end of nozzle for a short arc or recessed for a spray? (and if recessed, how much should it be recessed using a .023 wire mig with gas) Looked everywhere here but cant find a suitable answer so I thought I would just ask!!!Thanks in advance.
Reply:You want to use short cct for welding body metal and c25 gas mix."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
Reply:Flush or slightly protruding, but for what you are doing it wont make much of a difference even if you had it recessed.  Spray arc is where you can see a big change.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:So for those of us just learning, what really is the difference between short circuit and spray arc? I see the terminology being used but dont quite understand the difference.
Reply:just like it sounds.short circuit,  the filler short circuits against the metal repeatedly causing the end to melt off.spray,  the filler melts into droplets smaller than the filler wire before it hits the base metal,  and is "sprayed" onto the base.between the 2 is globular transfer which is droplets larger than the filler wire.there are a million pictures and explanations in every welding book that covers mig ive ever looked at.XMT 350 MPa, w/D52-DTA 185 TSWHarris of
