thought you guys might be interested in this one, this is a space frame im in the middle of fabricating for a customer, its a off road buggy, or dune buggy, theres a 1.3 corolla engine going into it, but the customer is putting a glanza turbo engine in in the future.its a full custom mandrell bent frame, made from 1 7/8th tubing, and 1 1/2 tubing. on this one im only doing the frame, and all suspension mountingthe engine and fab work, should be a prety cool little machine when finnished.
Reply:That's a cool project. Very nice workmanship. Is this your design?
Reply:Looks good but one problem. Get a camera that will do macro.
Reply:thanks guys. yeah this is my design, just made it out of my head, but designed to be strong, very strong.yeah i know, ive been meaning to get a new camera for a while. must go shoping for one at the weekend
Reply:I've built many 2 seaters utilizing VW Beetle air cooled power.    Been years though.  Since there isn't any sand dunes anywhere near West Virginia They took on the name "Mud Buggy"  They were quite the rage here in the late 70's through 80's.   Not many of them has survived to today. It is amazing to where & how fast they would get you there off road.Great looking job. Hope to see the finished product.IF IT WORKS, DON'T FIX IT2 Lincoln CV-300 / LN-7 GMALinde-VI 253,400 & 450 w/MIG35 feedersCNC Table with Oxweld O/A & Hypertherm 1250G3Lincoln Ranger GXT 250Hobart-MicroWire 300ESAB Heliarc 161ESAB-Mobilemaster 2 CC/CV Feeders& more
Reply:Looks good as far as fabrication & fitment ,and welds. Will be nice to see picture of it  when done.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:What kind of tubing bender did you use? All the bends look very smooth and uniform. Keep up the good work and the pictures coming.                                   pmac
Reply:i used a jd2 model 3 bender, have to say, it makes flawless bends. hard work though as i only have the manual version.
Reply:where in ireland do you ride these things?
Reply:Build a Power Pack for that bender!!!
Reply:i dont realy drive them, this is the first one ive built, but im definitely going to build one for my self next. i suppose in fields, and forests with permission of the land owner?im gona build a electric hydraulic kit for it but im waiting on the right ram. i have the motor, controls, and hydraulic chest off a rear tail loader off a small Truck , and a friend says he has a ram that might suit, so when i knock something together ill post it up here.
Reply:nice!! That should be a pretty good setup i built one on a manual hosfeld and it was awesome."My fingernails are melting"
Reply:Any updates? Also, can you take some pics of the motor mounts?
Reply:hows work in Ireland. tell the the owner to ditch that pos motor and get a busa or a gixxer motor. then put a turbo on that thing= crazy hp to weight ratio. Frame looks good for the frist one. i would suggest making the door panels a little higher thou. check out some of sinistersandsports buggies. those are some little bad *** buggies.lincoln weld pac 100Hobart handler 120Lincoln  "BuZZ box"Lincoln Precision Tig 225
Reply:thanks guys,  yeah i suggested motorbike engine, but he wanted to scrimp, and put that motor in instead. im no finished with the frame, there is going to be a higher shoulder bar, and alot of bars on the front left, im just waiting on the customer to get me seats, and steering before i fab.
Reply:just small update, finished the rear shock turretsmade them out of 1 1/2 tube, and just triangulatedthem back to the main frame. there very strong and should hold up well in a roll.
Reply:struts? what is the customer thinking. he should just get some foa coilovers there cheap. might as well just put a roll cage in a car and drive it in the desert. what are the plans for the front. please dont tell me more struts. lol. not trying to bash on u, ur work looks great but i wouldnt even build this thing if he came to me. ur client needs to save some money and quit skimping on what makes a buggy a buggy. if he would spend a little more dough and buy some coil overs, 3x3 trailing arm. and have u fab some a arms this thing would be ****.lincoln weld pac 100Hobart handler 120Lincoln  "BuZZ box"Lincoln Precision Tig 225
Reply:im 100% with you. i did how ever convince him to let me put double A arms up front, and i have a alloy steering rack and pedal box on order, he wanted me to fit the **** ones out of the car, an i said ehh no. so he's spending a little more dosh but not much.
Reply:small update,  got started on the front and rear suspension. and steering column. this is all i have to work with so i made the best of them, i still have alot more bars and bracing to do but you get the gist.  rear lower control arms modified. 4'' longer and 1 1/2 tube inside for strength
Reply:the frame so far and front suspension,  im making the a arms from scratch, using hondahubs. and looks like nissan struts? like i said this is what i have to work with, im trying to make coal into diamond......
Reply:pretty much finished.front turrets
Reply:weld shots i finaly got a camera that does close pics.
Reply:tube fitment,and now the frame 95% complete.
Reply:looks mean as, fair wack of weight in the rear half, reckon u can get this thing to wheelie the front off the ground?
Reply:I figured I would build one of those some day, but never got around to it!Looks like nice work.Enjoy!#1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!thanks guys,  yeah i reckon it'll wheelie, completely striped the frame back down and painted in black enamel
Reply:and then re assembled,. This is as far as I go on this project, the customer Wanted a full custom rolling buggy frame, so now its FINNISHED
