Hi everyone first time posting to this forum.my question is two part questions. I just bought a new thermal arc 181i.I had a HF 180 welder. I was wondering about the functions of this welder. when I pull the trigger on the welder I get a surge of gas, like normal but with the trigger pulled the gas starts but when the trigger is released the gas keeps going for a few seconds. is this normal.if so it seems to me that with that delay I would use much more gas.my next question When my mig torch is in a small coil very close to my project my wire has a tendency to bind is this normal?
Reply:.....when the trigger is released the gas keeps going for a few seconds. is this normal
Reply:Mike,Thanks for the reply. This machine is great,a lot better than the Hf I have. I have 0.24 wire I'm running I'm not sure on the groove for the wire wheel. I thought this welder came with one 0.24 wheel. I will have to check. I'm glad  the gas pr-charge is normal. I will need to play with it more to get all the bugs worked out.-Larry
Reply:You're welcome.Mine came with three wheels, an .024/030 V, .035/045V and .035/045?? ( I think) knurled....Mike
Reply:I will check to see if its the correct wheel. -Larry
Reply:Mike,Thanks for the tip my wheel was on the 0.30 and not the 0.24 so my wire would slip. thanks -Larry
Reply:No sweat......Mike
Reply:Mike,I have another question regarding the thermal arc 181i when I'm starting the weld I get a pop on the wire then my wire ends up inside the tip and I'm unable to get the wire restarted until I unscrew the tip then cut the wire loose and reinstall the tip with a fresh clean cut wire. and start the weld all over. I have the burn back setting as longest setting so the wire protrudes out of the tip.what causes this problem. Thanks for the help.-Larry
Reply:Might be out too far. If it's out too far (stickout)  the wire hits the workpiece, stalls momentarily and then burns off at the tip.....Mike
Reply:Keep your tip tight, keep your tip flush or recessed a tad, keep your torch close to the work, and adjust your burnback so it leaves about 1/4".Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
